What is the minimum income from Doordash to receive a tax document?

DoorDash would issue your spouse a form 1099-NEC if they paid her at least $600 during tax year 2024.

Please read this TurboTax article for more information.

So she would not receive a tax form as she received less than $600.

Your wife would report this income as Other self-employed income in TurboTax.

You report the income you received in cash, checks or bank transfers or without a 1099-NEC as self-employed income under Other self-employed income.

  1. In business income, just under Type of Income, click on Add Income for this work
  2. On the next page, click on the radio button next to Other Self-employed Income
  3. Click Continue to enter your income received in cash, checks or bank transfers.

If you have expenses related to this business, you can deduct them.

What is the minimum income from Doordash to receive a tax document?

I am using Turbotax premier desktop version. When I try to add this income as self-employed, then I am asked to answer lot of questions like

1) Description

2) Owner of the business

3)Business address

4)Employer ID

5)Business code

6) Accounting method (cash/accrual)

7) tetc...

Since she is not doing this and there was no profit, can I enter this Income as a hobby income.

What is the minimum income from Doordash to receive a tax document?

To be accurate, you should report the income on Schedule C since it truly was self-employment income.  Also, if there is an expectation that this work will be done again in 2025, then the Schedule C makes sense.

However, since the total amount was less than $400, there would be no self-employment tax imposed.  Therefore, reporting it as hobby income would not change the bottom line of your tax return.

If you do decide to use the Schedule C, answer the questions as follows:

1 - delivery driver

2 - your spouse

3 - your home address

4 - none

5 - TurboTax will help fill in the business code

6 - cash accounting
