What happens if paid but your return was rejected, and the issue is corrected with the result being the IRS owes you a refund. Does that payment on the rejected return get canceled automatically?

With rejected returns no information is sent to the IRS or State.
@UU3 You are correct it means your payment information did not go through. You can double check your credit card account to make sure no payment went through.
@Trinity_1011 Have you tried to enter a Zero for your 2020 AGI? The IRS was and still is backlogged so they are behind in the processing of allot of returns or they processed them late which is causing allot of 2020 AGI to be rejected even when it is the actual AGI. Entering Zero has gotten allot of user accepted.
Usually when a return is rejected no information is sent to the IRS or State. You may see pending from the first time you e-filed which would stay pending, but a payment should not go through until the return has been accepted.
If your return is rejected, you can re-submit without an additional charge.

So if I made a payment with a credit card, that payment would be rejected as well and would not go through to the IRS?
Yes, that is correct

My returns were rejected due to AGI (I also verify the correctness from the IRS website, still was rejected) and I will need to make a mad dash to post my taxes before COB (Close of business today). However, the payment I made, along with the turbotax fee is showing as pending on my online banking. I do not want to get in a position where I will be making a multiple tax payment. Will the 1st payment that went through be cancelled, because would like to pay it only and be done with it.
