If the "Federal Income Tax Withheld" box is empty then that means that your employer did not withhold any federal income taxes from your wages (paycheck). You would still enter the W2 into your tax return, however you just leave the information for box 2 blank (do not enter 0 (zero))
But I have two kids and I did do a w4 form
You can also check on your paycheck stubs to see if any taxes were taken out- if they were you can contact your employer to ask for a corrected form. You can indicate on the W4 that you are not required to have taxes withheld (if you qualify of course)
So it says I'm getting nothing back from Federal. My employer left Box 2 blank. Does this mean I will owe taxes? I am a student and part time employee.
@jujucockell If you entered your tax information in TurboTax and it says you are getting nothing back from federal, then you probably don't have any tax so you should not owe any tax. Most likely, your employer didn't withhold any tax since your income was too low to require that. If you are not a dependent of your parents on their tax return, you should complete the Earned Income Section on the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax to see if you qualify for an earned income tax credit. It is in the You and Your Family subsection. If you are a dependent, then you don't need to bother with it, since you won't qualify.
If you don't put 0, then what do you put in the box, it defaults to 0
If box 2 on your W-2 is blank or contains a 0.00, you can leave the box blank or enter 0 when you enter your form into TurboTax.
