What do I do if my control number is only ten digits when it’s asking for a twelve digit number?

Control box D - numbers only It will not let me continue because my number is only ten digits. It says it needs to be twelve digits.

What do I do if my control number is only ten digits when it’s asking for a twelve digit number?

The Control Number in box d of the W-2 is not needed to file a tax return. Leave box d blank (empty).

If you still receive an error then delete the W-2 and re-enter manually to clear the error.
