We didn’t get either stimulus for one of our dependent. Turbo tax is saying we did. How can I change that? We have three children (ages 1,4,6) and only got it for 2.

If you did not receive your first and/or second stimulus payment or if the amount received is not correct or if you did not receive the stimulus for a dependent child under age 17, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
  4. Follow the interview
  5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.

there is not an option to claim the dependent stimulus credit. The only option was if I received the 1,200 and 600 amount which I did but I did not receive the dependent stimulus for my 10 yr old which I am eligible for.

You are entitled to $1,200 plus $600 stimulus checks for yourself, and $500 plus $600 for your dependent child, so a total of $2,900. If you entered in TurboTax that you received $1,800, you are due a recovery rebate credit of $1,100. You should see that amount on line 30 of your form 1040.

You can view your form 1040 while in TurboTax by using the following menu tabs:

  1. Tools
  2. Tax Tools (left side of the menu bar)
  3. View Tax Summary
  4. Preview my 1040 (left menu bar)

Thank you

You have been the most help so far, although I still haven't figured out to get the  dependent stimulus credit or the child tax credit at least I was able to check. Yesterday I spent an hour on the phone with someone that had me pressing all different amounts where it asked if I received the 1,200 and 600 which I have received my checks but not for my 10 yr old after almost an hour she told me that IRS will just see I have a qualified dependent and their automatically send me the 1,100  but obviously they didn't see the last 2 checks I'm sure their not going to notice now.

@mtarallo1083 If you aren't getting the child tax credit, it sounds like your child is not being treated as a qualifying dependent for some reason. The child tax credit appears on line 19 of your return and can also appear on line 28 if your taxable income is under $2,000 per dependent.

I suggest you go back through the personal information for your dependent and make sure you indicate that the child in under 17 years old, does not furnish over 1/2 of her support, lived with you for more than 6 months of the year and no one else is claiming her as their dependent.

When you get through the questions, you should be informed that the child qualifies as your dependent, and that should qualify you for the stimulus payment.
