My husband who is a stay at home dad recently got a full time job on 10/08/25.
Re w4, what changes shall we write? can anyone verify if we are doing it correctly?
Our situation is: we have one child. my income is 103k and his is 34k.
Currently, my w4 is married filing jointly w no dependents. I like it like that so they can take the max amount of taxes.
On w4 - We want to cont to file as married filing jointly.
Here when it gets tricky.
In step 2: if we use B - using the multiple jobs worksheet.
step 2b(pt.1) two jobs - it shows 7620 in the mult jobs table divided by 26 (biweekly pay for the higher paying job)
step 2b(pt 4) is equals to $293
---- this $293 result, is it really necessary to write this on step 4c (extra withholding part) on the higher paying job's w4? what can happen if the higher paying job keeps it zero?
How about on the lower paying job's w4, shall he keep all zero on step 4c?
Also, what if he adds our child as dependent, will only be his pay be affected for adding dependent or both of our pay even I put zero dependents?
I asked someone who knows about taxes and she advised to keep step 4c zero - so now we are confused.
Thank you so much.
