W-2 line 12a REQUIRED to be entered on tax return?

On a W-2, line 12a, there is a capital W (re: HSA) with a small amount in the box (<$500). I *should* be able to file a simple/free tax return, yet am being stopped with programs wanting to force (not suggest) me to upgrade due to this box. While I can manually enter the W-2 to get around the program reading that box, I don't want to do anything illegal or wrong on my W-2. I'm also not willing to pay for a deluxe or premium tax return for something so small and it doesn't even impact my tax return in any way (other than charging for upgraded filing).

Am I legally required to enter the small amount from line 12a (capital code W for HSA) if I manually enter my W-2?

Thank you!

Yes, you must report in your Federal Form 1040 if you had any contributions or distributions from an HSA account.   Contributions are reported on Form W2 box 12 code W. If you had distributions, they will also need to be reported on your return.
