Filing joint federal return. On a 1099-R for my wife which was imported from Fidelity, the ownership was incorrectly "guessed" by TurboTax, and I missed the question initially. In a physical review of the forms, I saw that the ownership box for spouse wasn't checked, so I went to step by step, found the question on ownership, and selected her name. Suddenly the federal tax owed jumped $74. Is this at all logical where on a joint return the actual ownership of each 1099-R would affect the tax calculations? I thought it was only important to provide the ownership to enable IRS to match up the correct 1099-Rs. I am suddenly uncomfortable with TurboTax accuracy after all these years. Do any other users think this specific example is a TurboTax error?
