When did you amend your return? Did you amend to claim the additional refund for the unemployment income? Did you arleady mail in the amended return? Where are you seeing this "double counting". On the amended return? On the IRS website when you go to check status of the amended return?
Really not sure what's going on here.
I am in the process of amending my return to take into account an update 1099 and K-1 schedules. When I originally filed the tax free threshold for unemployment was not calculated in TurboTax yet. I recently received a refund from the IRS for the tax free threshold.
My question is whether TurboTax will calculate the taxes on the amended return I need to file now using the tax free threshold on the unemployment or not?
If you have installed the latest updates (only required if using the CD version of the program) then take a look at what the refund-o-meter shows now. I "should" already include the additional refund from your unemployment income.
After you save an updated copy of your return in PDF format, take a look at SCH 1 line 8 you should see an entry of "UCE" with a negative number on that line equal to the amount of your unemployment, but not exceeding -10,200. (If filing joint and you and your spouse received unemployment, the max for each of you separately is 10,200 but not to exceed a total of 20,400)
Column A of the form 1040X MUST reflect the unemployment changes made by the IRS and NOT what was on your original return. So if column A is incorrect you need to undo the amendment process and remove any changes you already made and start over.
