Under box 12 i have two capital letters each followed by a different dollar amount i have“D17 and Q”. My question is, where and under what do i file the “Q” amount.

Code Q is your non-taxable combat pay. Enter your W-2 exactly as it is printed and you will be fine.
If you qualify for Earned Income Credit (EIC), when you start through the EIC section, the software will detect that you have combat pay and will ask if you want to figure it both ways. Say "yes" and choose whichever way is to your advantage.

The "D17" just means it is for 2017.....you just put in the "D".and then the $$ mount alongside
.................then look for the "+Add another row" text to click on, just below your "D" entry for box 12
