Unable to use TurboTax: How do I bypass updates

I almost completed my federal and state taxes. Came back a day later to review before sending it off. Purchased the eFile. All good so far.

Got a prompt to update before sending it to federal and state.

Now I get an error that installation of the update failed. Specifically:

"failed to install update. Microsoft Installer error: 1603, Fatal error during installation"

I have done the following and at each step tried to run TT (which would force an update)

  1. Run .NET Repair tool
  2. Upgraded .NET to 5.0

How can I bypass "update turbotax"?

Thank you for your response. This did not help!

I have spent a lot of time on this and at this point will uninstall TT and reinstall it.

Not sure if this will help and also do not know how eFile payment that has already been made will be handled.

So, I spent many hours attempting to rectify the issue. See history above.

The solution that worked: Uninstall TT (not repair). TT retains the tax file when you install. This is good!

Reinstall TT and I was good to go.

Intuit Tech Team: You need to sort this out. I am guessing millions of hours lost around the country trying to figure this out.

Intuit Support Team: You need to provide far better support suggestions on how to solve issues. Pointing to page that has multiple suggestions (Problem could be A, B or C and solution can be X, Y, Z ...) does not really help non-techies and even techies like me ...

All good. Taxes filed and yikes ton of money to send :(
