Hi, I reading reading some posts that suggest TT online wont accept the filing of two W2s that have the same Fed Employer ID - is that correct?
To explain, I know I will be getting two W2s from my employer at the end of this year relating to a change in payroll processing that will be reflected in a change in the "control number" (box d) of one of the W2s vs the other. I understand one W2 will reflect earnings up to the change and one will reflect earnings after the change - but again my employer will not of changed. I am reading some posts that suggest I should combine the values of the two W2s and file as one W2 in TT online, but that makes me uneasy given I assume the IRS will be receiving both W2s.
Thanks Richard

I created a test tax return with two W-2s from the same employer, with the same Employer ID number. TurboTax did not give me any error indication. I got up to the point of e-filing the return without any problems. Since it's a test return, I can't actually file it, but it appears that you would not have any problem entering the two W-2s. Of course, my test is with the 2022 software. The 2023 software could be different. But based on my test I would suggest that you enter the two W-2s separately. If you run into a problem with your 2023 tax return, post a new question at that time.
thank you so much for the response. It's very reassuring
