Why does turbo tax try to force you not to use the free edition of their program. You do everything you can to force this issue

TurboTax is not a charity. It's a commercial company that is in business to make money by selling software and services. They don't make any money by giving away their products, and there is no reason that they should give it away. Offering a very restricted version of the product for free is a marketing strategy. They do it in the hope that you will buy something. It's like any other business that gives free samples as a way of introducing their product to potential new customers. When a food store gives you a free sample, they don't give you a full portion or a full meal. They give you a taste. If you want more, you have to buy something.

Do you qualify to the Free Edition?  It only does a 1040EZ and 1040A returns and not the full 1040 and doesn't have deductions.

There is also The Turbo Tax Freedom website which is free for federal and state.  And has more forms than the Federal Free Edition, like the full 1040 return and Schedules A, B, C , D, E, F, EIC, H, K-1, SE,  etc.
To qualify for the Tax Freedom website  you just need to meet one of these 3 things

AGI $33,000 or less
Active duty military with AGI of $64,000 or less
OR qualify for EIC (earned income credit)

In order to use the Tax Freedom Edition, you have to start it at a special website:

Do not sign in at the top.  Use the bottom I QUALIFY START NOW
and set up a new account or it will take you back to regular Turbo Tax.

How to switch to Tax Freedom
