Turbotax is demanding an address for Social Security Administration

Turbotax keeps flagging an "error" in my federal return, saying I need the payer's state on the 1099, in this case Social Security.  I've seen this question posted multiple times on the forums and the replies are basically the same.  They say a 1099-R was posted instead of a 1099 (is there a difference?)  I didn't post the actual form, I entered the information manually, directly into Turbotax as it was requested by the software.  At no point was there any such option or question about more than one way to enter this information or some sort of choice between form types.

When I look at the replies to others who have had the same problem they're told to search for 1099 in the search box and reenter the information.  When they come back and report that this doesn't work there is no further reply.  So what am I supposed to do?

You are entering your Social Security in the wrong place. The form that shows your Social Security is Form SSA-1099, not 1099-R and not plain 1099. Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income. Under "Retirement Plans and Social Security" click the Start or Update button for "Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)." Delete any 1099-R that you entered.
