Turbotax business 2025 desktop programming errors

In attempting to file a 2025 return for a Grantor Trust, I have discovered several discrepancies in data that is collected vs. what is produced on filing documents.  What is the best way to report the errors and to get them corrected timely?

Grantor trusts can output a weird format.  It definitely takes some getting used to.

Can you please let us know what the errors are that you're seeing?  It may be that we can help.  Certainly if there are errors in the program it helps to know what they are specifically.

Agreed...but I've used Turbotax business each year for this return, and have only encountered errors in this year's distro.  The gist is, I populate the grantor's core information (name, address, SSN) when prompted.  When asked if the grantor will be signing the return, I choose "no", and populate with my information (trustee).  Information that is then produced on federal and state (Pennsylvania) forms shows the grantor's information rather than mine in fiduciary segments.  When those segments are manually edited, the printed forms revert back to original (incorrect) versions.  Super buggy behavior.  I've tried importing last year's file as a starting point and also entering from scratch, both with the same result.

You’ve already tried the usual “clean start” steps. Here’s a workaround that experienced users use when the interview logic isn’t working as expected.

1. The "Information Worksheet" Priority

In TurboTax Desktop, the Information Worksheet acts as the "source of truth." If you manually edit a signature line on Form 1041 or the PA equivalent, the program will often "refresh" that field from the Information Worksheet right before printing or e-filing.

  1. Go to Forms Mode (top right).
  2. Search: Find the Information Worksheet (usually titled "Info Wks" or "General Info").
  3. Part IV/V (Fiduciary/Signer): Look for the section specifically detailing the "Fiduciary" or "Representative." Ensure your information is entered here. Often, if "Grantor" is selected as the primary entity type, the software mistakenly maps the Grantor’s name to the signer field unless it's explicitly overwritten on this worksheet rather than the form.

2. Check the "Filing Status" Logic (Federal)

For Grantor Trusts, TurboTax sometimes struggles if it thinks it is a "wholly grantor trust."

  1. In the Interview section under General Info, check how the trust is categorized.
  2. For a Grantor Trust, the IRS usually requires the Grantor’s SSN as the main ID, but the Trustee is the one who has the authority to sign. If the software is putting the Grantor’s name on the signature line, it could be because the “Type of Entity” box on the 1041 is causing an auto-fill that the 2025 distribution update hasn’t fully addressed.

3. Pennsylvania State Specifics (PA-41)

Pennsylvania is notoriously rigid with Fiduciary/Trustee mappings.

  1. Check the PA Information Worksheet.
  2. Look for a checkbox labeled "Same as Federal." If you see it, uncheck it. This lets the PA forms use a separate data set, so you can enter the Fiduciary (Trustee) details directly, without any overlap from the Federal Grantor information.
