Turbo Tax Not Responding

I had the problem with TT Not Responding, even after waiting 1 hour. I spoke with 3 different TT support people (all nice but unable to solve the problem).  Tried clearing cache & cookies, uninstalled, reinstalled, bought it a second time, I even bought a new computer -- still no help. I finally had an epiphany at 2am that my old data, ie depreciation forms some going back 15 years could be causing this.  As soon as I started deleting these unneeded/no longer relevant forms, TT began working perfectly.  Many of us are long time users of TT so there could be a lot of no longer relevant information that is still being accessed when TT is processing, and this could be jamming up the program. I hope this helps.

Turbo Tax Not Responding

Your insight into the old data causing the problem is helpful. Here’s are some  ways to address this issue (updated with your insight) and links to sources::

Steps to Resolve TurboTax Not Responding

  1. Clear Cache & Cookies: This is a common first step to resolve many software issues
  2. Uninstall & Reinstall: Sometimes a fresh installation can fix problems for TurboTax Desktop.
  3. Check for Old Data: As you discovered, old and no longer relevant data, such as depreciation forms from many years ago, can cause TurboTax to jam up. Deleting these forms can help the program run smoothly.  See here for steps to delete forms.
    1. Backup Important Data: Before deleting any old forms, make sure to back up any important data.
