(Turbo Tax Home & Business)
Most folks know if their State requires a Tax Return. But I get this same dysfunctional page on Turbo Tax every year. It's at the END of the filing questionnaire when Turbo Tax already knows my State because it's already put it on the screen. So it could quickly tell me if I need to start (purchase) the State Return or not. Instead it offers this ambiguously weird page that says the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Select the button next to your state to finish your state taxes.
FLORIDA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [START]
[Get Another State] . . . . . . . . . . . [Done with States]
Finished your state return? Select Done with States
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(If you click [Done with States] it immediately goes to a page saying)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Why Not Finish Your State Return now . . . . . (and at bottom says)
[NO THANKS] . . . . . . . . [LETS FINISH MY STATE TAXES]
-----------------------------------------------------------------
No where do I see the choice of [My State doesn't require a Return] even though it knows this already.
If you get curious and click to start the State process just to see what's it says, the display usually foobars trying to log you in online etc and freezes the screen and you have to enter the task manager to shut down the frozen popup since the Popup is so huge you can't see to close it.
On the years that it didn't freeze eventually it just said Good news your State doesn't require a Return.
I don't know maybe I'm just tired at the end of tax season but the whole process seems a like a dysfunctional push towards the sale of State app.
Seems it'd be better if right out of the chute it would just say if the State return is needed or not. And ask if I have any other States to add. That's all.
