I'm trying to use Turbo Tax free edition and it is asking me to upgrade to Deluxe. I only have a W-2 and a 1099-Div. And the total of the dividend income on the 1099-Div is only $490. Last year I filed with Turbo Tax free edition with the same scenario with no problem. So, why am I being asked to upgrade this year? Did something change?

Did your W-2 have retirement contributions or HSA contributions? These generate forms not included in FREE edition. Why do I have to upgrade? See this ink for other possibilities. Also print your return and see what forms and schedules you have beside Form 1040.
No it did not have retirement or HSA contributions. I will try printing the return and see what forms and schedules there are. Good suggestion!
