I am extremely frustrated with TurboTax/Intuit! My son has $12 of a local tax refund from withholding more than his taxes owed in 2020. And simply for that I have to upgrade to TurboTax Live Deluxe for $119??
He has a W-2 and minimal interest ! And because the locality refunded some WH’ing we need deluxe! TurboTax is becoming a money grab for even the most basic of tax returns now. As I said, extremely frustrated !

Was tax year 2020 a typo? if not the TurboTax online editions cannot be used for a 2020 tax return, only for tax year 2021.
To complete and file a 2020 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2020 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
A 2020 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
If you meant tax year 2021 there is no requirement that you upgrade to the TurboTax Live Deluxe online edition. You may have to upgrade to the Deluxe online based on the tax data being entered. The Deluxe online edition is $59.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for removing the Live edition - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/downgrading/help/how-do-i-remove-turbotax-live/00/27312
The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040. If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.
If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2020 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.
Or go to this IRS website for other Free File providers - https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/browse-all-offers/
