When you start a New 2023 tax return using the 2023 TurboTax desktop editions, the program looks in the TurboTax Folder within the Documents directory for all tax year 2022 tax data files which have a file extension of .tax 2022. You are then presented with a list of the 2022 tax returns to transfer to the 2023 tax return.
And you don't import it, you Transfer it. You can only transfer from 2022 at the very beginning before you start 2023. So try again. Start a NEW tax return, go up to File-New. You should get 2 choices, Check the first circle that says Start a New Individual Tax Return. I have Windows Home & Business so if you get stuck I can make you screen shots.
Or did you use the Online Premier version last year?

I tried one other thing after I posted. I could see the 2022 file I wanted to use in another open window, that 2023 could not see. I did a copy and paste of the file name into the 2023 empty file name box. It worked perfectly after that. I am now up and running with my personal taxes and now another session that is letting me do church W2s and 1099 NECs. Thank you for your help.
