Trying to file a 8379 Injured Spouse form on turbotax but it keeps taking me to a much longer and completely different 8857 form. How do I file 8379 with turbotax?

Both the Innocent Spouse (Form 8857) and the Injured Spouse (Form 8379) originate in the same starting place.

To file this form in TurboTax:

  1. Sign in and click the Take me to my return button.
  2. In the search box, search for injured spouse and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Do you want to claim innocent or injured spouse relief? and carefully follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. On the next screen, say yes, you want to file an innocent or injured spouse claim
  5. On the Innocent and Injured Spouse Relief screen, click Continue (you are not filing for innocent spouse relief)
  6. On the next screen, once again click Continue
  7. The next screen is Let's See if You Qualify for Injured Spouse Relief. Select your state, if it isn’t pre-selected. Answer the question on the next screen and continue
  8. Be careful on the next screen Tell Us More About Your Situation to select everything that applies to you. it’s important that  you are filing a joint return, that there is some debt of your spouse that may  reduce your refund (you can choose more than one) and that you are not liable for this debt. Without all three factors, you won’t qualify for injured spouse treatment
  9. Continue entering information from your return.
  10. Note: Pay close attention to the screens, as some of them apply to innocent spouse relief, which is something else. Leave those questions blank if you only want to claim injured spouse relief.
