Trouble with Form 8962

Last night my daughter did her taxes on my turbotax.

We shared our health care from the marketplace this last year. We accidentally said that I was only on the  healthcare for eight months. Instead, she was the one who was on for eight months. Her federal was already accepted. Is there a way to fix this so I can file my taxes?

I went to take care of ours today, and it won't allow me to put in my percentages, or that I had the healthcare for the whole year.

Using Home and Business

Thanks

If your daughter's tax return has been e-filed and accepted, her tax return will have to be amended to report the correct 1095-A information.

At the screen Continue Your 2021 Tax Return, click on Amend a Filed Return in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

See also here.

Has your tax return also been e-filed?  When you open the software and pull up your tax return, what does the Status say?  Does it say Not E-filed or something else?  Please advise.

To edit IRS Form 1095-A,

  • Go to Personal / Deductions & Credits / I'll choose what I want to work on / Medical / Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A).
  • Click Update to the right.

You also will enter the IRS Form 1095-A at Federal / Deductions & Credits / Your tax breaks / Medical / Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A).

Do you mean how do you report a shared 1095-A which reports two different taxpayers?

At the screen Let us know if these situations apply to you, click I shared this policy with another taxpayer who's not on my taxes.

At the screen Since this is a shared policy......, include the taxpayer information.

The IRS requires that your percentages are agreed upon by all and that the percentages add up to 100%.

  • Your Premium Percentage
  • Your SLCSP Percentage, and
  • Your Advanced Payment of PTC Percentage.

Taxpayer 1's tax return should reference taxpayer 2.  Taxpayer 2's tax return should reference taxpayer 1.

Hers has been filed and accepted, I cannot file ours because turbotax knows of the discrepancy. I will make the changes to hers this weekend and then finish ours.

Thank you
