We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

To properly allocate the policy amounts, how do I add more fields to enter information on individuals in my health insurance policy who are not in my taxes (parents)?

I need to enter information for 3 additional SSN in order for turbotax to know how to allocate the policy amounts.

You will need to  adjust your input in the program in the Federal section of the program.

  1. Select Deductions & Credits
  2. Scroll down to show All Tax Breaks
  3. Select Medical
  4. Select edit to the right of Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
  5. Check the box marked Yes, I received a Form 1095-A and select Continue
  6. The next page is titled Let's get the info form your 1095-A form.  Review your input on this screen.
  7. You will be taken to the next screen where you are able to indicate your shared this policy with someone else.  Be sure to enter their information as prompted.

1095-A shared

If the policy is shared with a total of four people as mentioned in your post above, you will need to contact us for assistance to allocate the amounts.

What if I can no longer claim them as dependants but they are on my marketplace plan?

If you share a policy with others NOT on your return, check the box to indicate that you 'shared this policy with a taxpayer not on my return' when you enter your 1095-A.

Enter the SSN of the other taxpayer on the next screen, and the months that you 'shared' the policy.  You will need to 'Allocate' the % of the policy between yourself and the other taxpayer.  You can choose 100% for you, and 0% for the other taxpayer (or split any % you choose, as long as it adds up to 100%).

The other taxpayer will need to enter info from your 1095-A in their return (if they did not receive their own 1095-A).

Here's some info to help you with Various 1095-A Scenarios and Allocating 1095-A.
