Third Stimulus Check Tax Credit

Has the IRS or any other source confirmed wether or not this third stimulus check will have the same “double dipping loophole” for separated parents, where the parent who did not receive the dependent portion of the stimulus can still claim the credit on the following years taxes (such as the case was for the first two)?

If there has been any confirmation of this loophole, is there a link someone could provide?

Has anything been provided such as a timeframe for an official word or which way the IRS may be leaning on this matter?

No. This year has brought challenges. The IRS is required to reconcile the tax returns and stimulus payments as well as working on the third stimulus payments due to the American Rescue Plan.  With the tax season and the changes taking place all at once, a delay should be expected for full payments. They want to be diligent and are required to follow any protocols they have been issued.

The best place to continue to review for the most current updates is the IRS link for the third stimulus. I will include all three for your convenience.

These links are the FAQs for each round of stimulus:

What's different about EIP3 is that it applies to all dependents, not just kids under 17.  This means that double dipping would apply to many of the dependents themselves (parent gets it for 2020, dependent becomes non dependent in 2021 and gets it again).
