I’m trying to file but every time I get close Turbo Tax tries to get me to upgrade

Then you must be claiming a credit or a type of income that requires upgrade.

If you do not wish to upgrade, you can see if you qualify for the Free File Edition. While the name is similar to Free File, there are no upgrade fees.

To you qualify

Make less than $34,000 a year or

Qualify for the Earned Income Credit or

Active military making less than $66,000
