The self employment income from my 1099-MISC is listed twice under the "Your income" federal portion. Is this income counted twice then?

Yes, it can show up in both places. Under the Other Common Income section and under your Self-Employed Income. However, the income will only show up once on your tax return. On your schedule C, then onto line 12 of your 1040.

If you entered under the self-employment section first then you will see it listed in the Other Common Income and it is linked with your schedule C. If you entered in Other Common Income section first, you would have to link it in the self-employed section. Don't enter in both places. Only once under Self-Employed income for best results.

Verify your entry on the 1040 line 12 by selecting Tax Tools, Tools, View tax Summary, then Preview my 1040. If you see an that the amount is doubled, delete one of the forms.

Hi, I think I am dealing with this but can you help confirm?  As I'm working on my 2022 taxes, it shows a comparison to 2021, and under 2021 my wife's self-employment income amount is listed under "Self-employment income and expenses" AND "Income from Form 1099-MISC".  I'm trying to determine if it was counted twice?  Not sure how to use 1040 Line 12 because we have other income sources so I can't tell by looking at that number.  Thanks for your help!

The self-employment income can show up in several places on the tax return.  That does not mean that it is being counted twice.  And if you only entered it once then you have nothing to worry about.

Trouble arises if you enter the same income in two sections - like the self-employment section AND the 1099-MISC section.  If that happens then the system has no way of knowing that the income is the same.  So make sure that you only entered it once and you should be good.
