The Name of Locality section on my W-2G is blank what do I do

When you enter your  W-2G on the screen, there will be a blue Locality link next to Box 18. When you click on the link it will provide a list of Locality ID codes by state. If your locality is not listed or if the payment is for two or more localities you will use the code XXX instead.

It depends. Does your w2G have information recorded in Boxes 16-18 with 18 being name of locality. if not, leave this blank.

Hi, I left it blank and got a error saying it must be fixed.  I ended up adding xxx in the field, I hope that’s ok.  My WG2 form was blank.

Let me try to be more clear.  Yes, the W-2G Fields are filled out with block 18 empty.  I first left block 18 empty and it wouldn’t get pass the error flag saying that the field could not be blank.  I ended up putting xxx in the field.thank you.

Entering xxx will allow your return to be e-filed.   @Boo2

If there are amounts in 16 or 17, something must be entered in box 18.   Amounts in box 16 indicate you owe a local tax amount to the taxing authority in box 18 and amounts in box 17 represent amounts withheld and sent to the taxing authority in box 18.

Thanks.  I have spent 30 minutes going over all the inputs to make sure they are right.  Would be nice if turbo tax actually listed that as an option....
