I received a W-2 form with a blank box 1 from Reed Group, a company that manages bonding leaves for my employer. Can I e-file my return?

Reed Group, a company that manages bonding leaves for my employer, sent me two W-2s.

The first one has information in boxes 1-6. I've added it to my return and marked it as "paid family leave".

However, the second one only has information in boxes 3-6. This form is marked as "3rd party sick pay", but doesn't have code J in box 12. Since box 1 is empty, I can't e-file it, and I don't want to omit it from my submission either because my return decreases if I do so (I overpaid Social Security and this form has information about Social security tax withheld in box 4). Is there any workaround to e-file my return?

I didn't. I also spoke with Reed but they were not very helpful. Ultimately I just mailed my return.

Ohh ok. Thanks for the answer. So just take printout and submit. No changes in calculations. It's pain.

Please review the below article(s) :

If the W2s are from the exact same employer:

Thanks, but my situation is different - employer EIN is the same, but the information in boxes 1-6, 12, and 16 is different, so I can't follow this recommendation. My question was - as box 1 in one of this forms is blank, how can I avoid doing a paper filing?

Enter wages of $0.17 into that empty Box 1 on your W-2.

Thanks. Why $0.17 - does it have a special meaning? 🙂
