How can we find out why we owe so much this year in Federal Taxes and how can we prevent this happening again next year?

When you owe taxes, it means that you didn’t pay enough taxes throughout the year on the money that you made.  `

If you will be in the same situation next year, you may want to change the information on your Form W-4 to have more federal taxes taken out of your paycheck.  Contact your payroll department to request a new Form W-4 to complete.  Refer to the TurboTax article Top 5 Reasons to Adjust Your W-4 Withholding for more information.
