"My husband has a full time job. On the side he is in a band. They worked with a management company who booked them shows. The management company sent my husband a 1099-misc for the entire amount the band was paid for the year. My husband went online and printed out 1099-misc forms to his bandmates for their share. When in turbo tax home & business, it isn't showing me where to enter 1099-misc YOU paid out to someone from your "independent contractor" type business. Please help!"
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will enter it as Contractor Labor in the Business Expenses section. You do not need to enter them individually. You will just enter a description along with the total the amount paid. You can also list each separately with a description in that area.
How to get to that area : While inside the software and working on your return, type Schedule C in the Search at the top of the screen (you may see a magnifying glass there). There will be a popup that says Jump to Schedule C. Select that to get to the general area.
Cannot find a section that says "Other common business expenses". Only "other miscellaneous expenses".
Enter another 1099-MISC with a negative amount for the income paid to others.
This is called nominee income.
In description enter "Nominee income paid to band members".
Miscellaneous Expenses is the proper place to put expenses that have no specific category. You will need to supply a description.
