Tax Returns from 2017-2019

Hi! I am trying to help someone about their taxes and I was asked if they could still be able to do their taxes from 2017 through current. The agency he used for his taxes closed down and was wondering if he could do that here on Turbo Tax. If so how can he do that? Thank You!

You cannot use TurboTax Online to file for past years. TurboTax Online is only for the current tax year, which is now 2019. To file for earlier years you have to use the CD or download TurboTax software for each year that you need. You can purchase downloads for 2017 and 2018 at the following link.

You might get a better price from a reputable online seller that still has TurboTax in stock for the years that you need.

Tax returns for past years cannot be e-filed. You will have to print your past-year tax returns, sign them, and file them by mail. Mail each year in a separate envelope.

sure they can if they have their tax documents. they'll need to buy desktop software for '17 and '18 . for '19 they can use either the online software or buy the desktop software.

note that '17 and '18 can not be efiled through TT. must be mailed.

You can do 2019 returns online until Oct 15, 2020. But to do prior years you have to buy the Desktop program and install it on your computer.

You can only buy the download for prior years. You have to buy a separate program for each year. They only sell the last 3 years. You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on. You can buy any version. All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions. Buy the download here

If you want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand. You have to print and mail prior year returns.

Prior year returns can only be printed and mailed. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.
