Hi All,
I have filed the tax this year. It is my first tax filing as resident alien. I have a son born in the USA and wife. I am a student on F2 visa and my wife does not have permission to work in here. I filed the tax as 'married filing jointly' along with the ITIN application for my wife. The agent who filed the tax and apply the ITIN for us checked that I will get $8200 as return if I put her ITIN number in the file but I will get $1800 as return if I didn't put her ITIN or she didn't have ITIN. Now, at that time she did not have ITIN, so the agent put 'applied' in the SSN/ITIN section. This showed me that I will get $1800 as return which the agent submitted to IRS along with ITIN application. Now my question is how much actually I will get? Does IRS will process the ITIN first and then process my tax including her ITIN which should get me $8200? Or they will process it as it is now which will get me $1800?
Thank you.

No, the IRS won't do this automatically. Once you receive the ITN, you should amend your 2022 tax return that includes the ITIN to receive the additional refund amount, which you deserve.

Thank you so much, Dave.
