system won't take driver's license doc #

I am putting in exactly what's on my license and Turbo Tax is saying first three characters must be entered. there aren't any other characters to enter!!

This sounds like a NY document number requirement. This is a required input that can be found on the back of your NY license.  You can find the number after (not including)  "IDUSA." There should 8 or 10 digits, of which you enter the first 3 to satisfy the requirement.
