Summer Internship money received as Taxable Grants

I am a full time student studying for my bachelor degree. I have done summer internship at NIH in 2023 and got the 1099-G  for the money received during internship as a Taxable Grants (Box 6) .

How can I make this Summer Internship money mentioned as Taxable Grants (Box 6):

 (i) part of my earned income - which will increase my standard deduction and reduce my tax liability

OR

(ii) show that I have used this Grant money for my qualified college expenses (which I did) and this make it non-taxable / tax-free

You would enter the 1099-G under the "Income and Expenses" section of your federal return as your form is shown.

  1. Scroll down to "Other Common Income" and select "Other 1099-G Income"
  2. Click on the "start" button next to "Other 1099-G Income"
  3. Follow the prompts and continue through the section to enter your 1099-G.

It will look like this:
