Submitted tax file to IRS electronically, include form 8949. Do I still need to mail the form 8453 and 8949 to IRS?

I used TurboTax desktop software and submitted tax file to IRS electronically. For my tax return, I imported all trading information (include stocks and market discounted US government bond) from my brokerage account into TurboTax software, I did not use summary methods, so all the trading information were directly imported to form 8949 in TurboTax which were then attached to form 1040 and was filed to IRS electronically. However, after electronic filing, the TurboTax told me that I need to fill out form 8453, and mail the form 8453 and form 8949 together to IRS. This issue never happened in previous years,  why it happens this year?

in TT desktop go to Forms mode and look at the 1099-B worksheets, at the very bottom there is a check box for whether that 1099-B triggered the need to mail a statement, so maybe that will help see whether/why this is required

"If you e-file your return but choose not to report each transaction on a separate row on the electronic return, you must attach Form 8949 to Form 8453 (or the appropriate form in the Form 8453 series) and mail the forms to the IRS."

IRS - Instructions for Form 8949 (2024)

"Use Form 8453 to send any required paper forms or supporting documentation listed next to the checkboxes on Form 8453."

Form 8453 - U.S. Individual Income Tax Transmittal for an IRS e-file Return

Since you DID list each transaction separately, you do NOT need to mail in Form 8949 nor Form 8453.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I imported all and each transaction from my brokerage account to form 8949 in TurboTax and filed it electronically. The TurboTax instructed me to mail the Form 8949 and Form 8453 to IRS, you mean I can still ignore the instruction from TurboTax?

Thank you again.

Is Form 8453 part of your return? When you print your return (or create a PDF) TurboTax only generates the forms and schedules that are transmitted to the IRS.  If Form 8453 is part of your return, then your e-filed return has told the IRS that you will be mailing Form 8453 to them.  I doubt there will be a problem if you don't mail it, because you shouldn't have to, but you should be aware.

You are correct. One of the 1099-B form was checked for mail the statement.

Thank you so much for your help.

Turbotax is misleading if it implies you can get the forms to be mailed out of your tax return PDF file.
Other than Form 8453 ( a cover sheet), that's not the case,
The Form 8949 saying "see attached" you get out of your tax return PDF will not have any details.
It is for that reason you are being asked to mail in the details.
If the detail is already on your filed return, there is nothing to mail.
---

There is no point to mailing the coversheet by itself. That will just annoy the IRS.

There's no point to mailing the Form 8949 that only says " see attached" because that doesn't have any details either.

The Form 8949 to be mailed is the one that has the details - you supply that document (or acceptable substitute).
