State returns

I downloaded 2 state returns, IA and NE. My state of residency is IA with no income from NE. Why am I required to complete the NE return before filing electronically?

NE will be used by my children

State returns

You stated "NE will be used by my children."

Will you be preparing tax returns for dependent children?  Please clarify.

Something in the software is directing a review of the Nebraska state tax return.  Review your or your spouse's entries under My Info.

  • Click on My Info down the left side of the screen.
  • Click Edit to the right of your name and / or your spouse's name.
  • Review the entries under State of residence (on December 31, 2022) and I lived in another state.

Does a W-2 or other income have a reference to Nebraska?

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Select Edit / Add to the right of Job (W-2).
  • Select Edit to the right of the W-2.
  • Review lines 15 through 20 for state information.

State returns

I deleted all Ne tax forms except the information worksheet which I could not delete.  I verified the single W2 has no NE income. The NE info worksheet Part II has an X in the box next to NONRESIDENT.  When I run check ERRORS, NE schedule III line 1ab requires wages. My workaround is to add a $1.00 to this line.  No NE errors.
