SSA-1099 Georgia

Do I need to enter the SSA-1099 information in the Georgia State tax section in Turbotax or do I just enter it in the Federal income tax section and if so where?

The SSA-1099 is only entered in the federal section of the TurboTax program.  The information from the federal section will flow to the state section.

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

Thanks for a quick response.

So to confirm, I just enter the SSA1099 information in the Federal Tax section liked you instructed.  No place to enter it in the State Tax section?

That is correct, only entered in the federal section.

SSA-1099 Georgia

And....Georgia does not tax Social Security benefits.

There are 11 states that tax Social Security—Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Utah, and Vermont  These states offer varying degrees of income exemptions, but two mirror the federal tax schedule: MN and VT.

The tax laws for 2024 will change——for  tax year 2024 Missouri and Nebraska will no longer tax SS
