Hello everyone, this is our situation: my husband is on permanent disability after several years finally was approved. He received a form SSA 1099 for benefits paid in 2024 for $123809.30, (part of this was Medicare part B premium $2261.30 and direct deposit $121548), includes $41951.90 paid in 2024 for 2023; and $38565 paid in 2024 for 2022.
From these $123809.30 in April 2024 he had to payback to New York Group benefit solutions the amount of $57867.30 , the breakdown of payments as follow : 2022..........$41787.30, for 2023 ..............$16080
how can i deduct this amount $57867.30 from the total SSA1099? using turbo tax desktop?
Also, I have Covered California, and they base the monthly premium based on the year income and is counting that we received total income for our household $123809.30 and not the real amount of for 2024 which was $43292.4 ($123809.30-$41951.90-$38565) any guidance will be very appreciated 😉 Thank You.

You have two situations taking place on your return. Review the information below to handle each one.
Social Security Lump Sum Payment:
The lump-sum election has always worked smoothly in TurboTax. Have all tax returns available for each year included in the lump sum payment (shown on your SSA-1099).
This can be handled on your tax return for 2024. The Form SSA-1099 should show a total amount in box 5, and then the amount that is designated for each year in box 3. Worksheet 4 is included after Worksheet 2 is completed for each year.
Be sure to select "lump-sum" method of reporting in this situation which is all done on the tax return for the year of receipt of the benefits. Enter the appropriate amounts for each year when you start that section of your return. Continue to add each year for all years listed in box 3. There is no amendment required.
Also enter a zero if your Social Security benefits weren't taxable or there were none in the earlier year(s) (such as for a spouse).
The California income will adjust as you are filing the return since the repayment will be removed on the federal return and social security income is not taxed in California.
1. Do I enter the lumpsum for 2024 separate ? like I did for 2022, and 2023?
Where do I select the lumpsum in turbotax if give me a better number?
2. Where do I enter the repayment to the insurance $57867.30 ?
3. And also, how do I handle in TurboTax desktop the covered california issue , because is taking the full amount of $123809.30 instead of the real amount received for 2024 $65942 ? because it makes a Huge difference is like having to pay back around $9000 or around $3000? because the help to pay my health insurance was based in an income of $45000, so yes, I will have to pay for the difference $65942-$45000 = $20942 where I can adjust that? Thanks
