You can use your daytime phone number or office phone number if  any.

it needs to be BLANK, no number entered

Your "Personal Information Worksheet For the Taxpayer" page requires a phone number, but the IRS does not. I also want to know how to get past this flaw in the website.

Are you saying that the phone number needs to be blank or is the program telling you that?

If you don't have a daytime phone, either:

  • enter your evening phone number; or
  • enter a dummy number, like (800) 555-1212.

Won't the IRS flag us for a fake number? Why not just fix the website?

I'm not sure why the program is flagging this as an error, but it is true that the number will not affect your tax return and as such will not raise any flags with the IRS.
