I'm a South Carolina resident who worked remotely, in South Carolina, for a company in New York (freelance). I'm expecting a W-2 and New York state taxes were deducted from my paychecks.
Do I need to file a tax return in New York or South Carolina?
I know NY has a convenience rule, does that mean that because income was derived from a business in NY, tax needs to be paid to the State of New York and my return filed with New York?
Or do I have to file with South Carolina? And in that case, would they be expecting a cut of taxes? Would I need to file some kind of form to get tax money I paid to the State of New York back and pay it to South Carolina?
