Yes, you will need to file a tax return in both states. You will file a New York non-resident return first and then file your South Carolina state return. You will be given credit for the taxes you pay in New York on your South Carolina return.

 

Currently there are seven states that require remote workers to file because of the convenience rules. New York is one of these states.
