Software says I need to upgrade to Deluxe because I need to submit a 1040, but IRS forms say I can submit a 1040A?

The Software says I need to complete a 1040 because I had ABP interest income and thus need to upgrade to Turbo Tax Deluxe. When I look at the 1040A form it says that I absolutely can use that form to file my taxes with teh interest income I claimed. What gives?

Alternately:

Edit your 1099-INT form(s).

Look for entries of any amounts in boxes 11, 12, or 13.

1)  IF you have real values in any of those boxes, then you do have it.......then check your paper forms for a mistake...perhaps they need to be deleted if they truly do not exist.
...OR....
2) IF you have a 0.00 in any of those same boxes, don't leave them alone....delete any 0.00 in those boxes so that the box is empty.   This one could be the problem.

You must had something in your return that needs to go on the full 1040 to cause the Upgrade. The Free Edition only does the 1040EZ and 1040A for simple returns and not the full 1040. Do know it is not mandatory to upgrade, but to take advantage of the full features and benefits of maximizing your deductions and credits you may want to upgrade.

To Downgrade and go back to the Free Edition you must Clear & Start Over :

  1. In TurboTax Online, select My Account, then click on Clear & start over.
  2. On the Are you sure you want to clear your return? pop up screen, if you are sure about clearing all your entries and starting over, click Yes.
Then a new screen confirms you have cleared your entries, click Continue.
  3. A Help us find the right TurboTax product for you screen shows the TurboTax Online products and features.
  4. Select your new TurboTax Online product by clicking the Start for Free button.
Hope this information is Helpful
