social security considered a job for using step 2C indicator

I work full time and my husband and I both collect social security. Last year I filed for federal withholding as Married Filing Jointly. Not nearly enough federal taxes were withheld on my paycheck. I want to change my status on my W-4 but not sure what change to make. I do not have step 2C indicator selected because my spouse does not work. Does his social security count as income or "work" to be able to use step 2C indicator?

Social Security is not considered a job, however, if you have other income it can be up to 85% taxable. So, his social security DOES count as income as does yours.

You can contact the Social Security Administration and have them withhold taxes from one or both of your Social Security benefits of you can choose to have an additional amount withheld from your job. When you select the step 2c indicator, don't forget to include your social security when determining how much you should have withheld.
