I need an answer to this as well. Someone please help!
On the Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet, Line 5 is calculated by the program from the entries on Lines A-E, which may be why it's considered 'Estimated'. You're correct that you can't change that designation.
You could delete this form, and step through the Capital Loss interview section again under Wages & Income > Investments > Capital Loss Carryover to check the entries there, and let the worksheet repopulate. This should remove the error; however, you may be able to Continue past the error in Smart Check.
If your 2023 return showed a capital loss on line 6 of Form 1040 AND that loss was less than the loss shown on line 16 of Schedule D, then complete lines A through F of the 2023 Capital Loss Information Smart Worksheet.
From the entries in the Capital Loss Information Smart Worksheet, the program will complete lines 1 through 13 to determine capital loss carryover from 2023 to 2024. The carryover amount(s) will flow to this year's Schedule D.
Let us know if this doesn't work, and we'll try to help further.
