side job real estate

I have a normal 9-5 where i receive a w2 but i also recently acquired a real estate position. at this point my side job has only accrued expenses and i would consider it to be a loss, how can i file that when turbotax requires me to enter a dollar amount for my earnings?

When you go through the section to enter your business income and expenses in TurboTax, you will be requested to enter your income, but not required to. You can leave those entries blank and hit the "Continue" box on the bottom of the screen. If you were open for business, meaning you were working on generating sales in a serious manner,  then you are technically in business and as such you can deduct your operating expenses in that year.
