Your filing status is based on your marital status as of the end of the year. If you were not married on Dec. 31, your status is single or head of household if you qualify for that filing status.

Filing status is not the same as marital status. When TurboTax asks your marital status, you should select divorced. Divorced is not a filing status. TurboTax will recommend a filing status. It will probably be single, unless you have a dependent child in your home.
