According to the IRS instructions to entities providing a Form 1098 to taxpayers, box 7 can be checked to indicate that the address of the property securing the mortgage is the same as the mailing address of the taxpayer, or it can be left unchecked and the address of the property securing the mortgage must be included in box 8.  So box 7 is not always required to be checked even if the addresses are the same.
