@yumn190086 , the options for you unfortunately are not many :
(a) wait patiently and hope you do not run out of your visa or have to leave the country on emergency
(b) if you are near a town where there is a federal building ( in most major cities ), there would be an IRS office there. Go visit them and politely bug them -- they can often help in tracing the missing passport.
(c) If none of these yield results and you cannot wait any longer ( like an emergency ), request your country's consulate t issue you a new passport ---- old one lost and need to be cancelled -- and then with the new one in hand visit the DHS -- ( Immigration ) and ask for the visa to be re-issued because IRS lost your passport. But this is last resort.
BTW --- I do not understand why you did not send your husband's passport for the issuance of the ITIN for him -- usually that is what is needed. This does not make sense . Why is he having to pay taxes when he is abroad ( and may be no connection to US sourced income. Please clarify
On rereading your post , you say your passport is US-- then how do you get his visa or your visa on it ? None of this makes any sense ---PLEASE EXPLAIN the situation.

Ow sorry for the misunderstanding
my husband is working in the US and has his SSN number, and when he needs to file his taxes since we r newly wed his status changed and so on… thats why i needed an ITIN number with my NON US passport being sent to the ITIN department. i hope its more clear now
@yumn190086 what I get is :
(A) your husband works in the USA, has Social Security Number ( SSN ) , wants to file jointly with you ( a Non-Resident Alien, living in the USA on some visa ) and therefore you applied for an ITIN for yourself, you have the ITIN issued to you, but the passport that you sent in is still not returned. So my earlier comments on how to deal with the situation still stands.
Is this correct or is there some other combination of facts ? I cant think of some other way where he has SSN, you have ITIN, married and trying to file jointly --- ??
Yes thats what happened exactly
thanks a lot
