My guess is that you have a 1099-Q and are trying to eliminate that form. If the 1099-Q was used for qualified educational expenses, it should not go on your tax return. It can be tucked into your tax folder.
A child 24 and under in college can be a dependent. If she is not a dependent, then you can't claim education expenses and get a credit.
If the entire 1099-Q went to qualified expenses, room and board, tuition, etc then you do not need to enter the form. Tuition paid for the first 3 months of the next year also qualify, see page 12, What Expenses Qualify, and page 52 for qualified distributions at IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education.
