Reporting excess contribution of $850

TurboTax is reporting an excess contribution of $850, irrespective of any amount of additional contribution.   However, calculated HSA eligible contribution is $9550.   Employer contribution was only $2400.   Can't explain the discrepancy.   Suggestions?

Reporting excess contribution of $850

An 'excess contribution' message can result if the HSA contribution reported on a W-2 is also entered again in the HSA interview, since it's already been transferred from the W-2 entry.

Another reason can be the HDHP insurance coverage interview, where an entry error can indicate you weren't eligible for HSA for certain months.

Step through the entire section again, from the beginning where you report any 1099-SA all the way through to the Summary page after HDHP.  Remember that if you had 'Family' Coverage, enter 'None' for a spouse that was also covered under your plan.

Here's more info on Excess HSA Contribution.
